Christmas lists aren’t just for kids and Santa Claus. Before summer arrives, tick off our small business Christmas checklist to ensure you’re in the best possible shape for the year ahead.

  1. Manage Cash Flow: Ensure your business has sufficient funds to cover expenses during the Christmas season and January. Take into account tax obligations for the first month of the year. Plan your cash flow in advance, and consider delaying significant investments or upgrades until well into 2024 if finances are tight.

  2. Christmas Marketing: Send a thank-you email to your customers and wish them a Merry Christmas, fostering brand loyalty and engagement.

  3. Review Website Performance: With increased web traffic during Christmas, check your website for any glitches before the holidays.

  4. Inventory: Make sure your business has enough stock to meet customer demand based on the previous festive seasons.

  5. Plan Staffing Schedule: Don't find yourself short-staffed during late December and early January. Plan ahead with your Team to ensure coverage during the busy times, distributing responsibilities fairly among your Team.
  6. Follow up on Invoices: Address late payments promptly. Clear any outstanding invoices before the summer break.

  7. Take a rest and reflect: Recognise the importance of taking a break during Christmas and being with family and loved ones. Use the break to reflect on the year that’s been and get excited for the coming year with a clear and refreshed mindset.
