On holiday in Toronto, I noticed something: everything felt expensive.
Coffee, groceries, even a quick snack — the bill always seemed a little higher than expected. That is because tax is added on top of the price I see.
It reminded me of home in New Zealand, where GST also tags along on nearly every purchase. You can’t really escape it.
But walking through the city, I also noticed something no receipt could capture — the buzz of people building, dreaming, starting again. That part didn’t cost a cent.
Hope doesn’t get taxed. Not in Toronto. Not in Palmy. Not anywhere.
We pay tax on almost everything — income, fuel, groceries, even our morning coffee.
But there’s one thing no government can touch: hope.
Hope doesn’t get deducted. It doesn’t show up on a profit and loss. It compounds quietly, without limits or brackets.
In business, hope shows up when you take a chance on a new client or back yourself with an idea that hasn’t proven itself yet.
In life, it’s found in the belief that things can get better — that the setback is temporary, that the effort is worth it.
At Advanced Accounting, we love the numbers. But we also know the numbers only matter if they’re helping you move toward something bigger — a life you want to live.
So while we’ll help you manage the taxes, don’t forget the free part: nurture your hope. Protect it. Let it grow.
If you’re looking for a place to start, ask yourself: what’s one hopeful step I could take this week that costs me nothing but belief?
Because unlike everything else in your accounts, hope is tax free.
