Xero comes with everything templated; ready to go and easy to use, but so bland!

‍Invoices

‍I’ve seen hundreds of Xero invoices issued by businesses and they all look the same, often still wasting space by including the rather useless ‘remittance’ slip at the bottom.  The only difference is the logo.  You can do better!  Customise your Xero invoice to reflect your business.  And not just the invoice, but the quote and statement as well.  Perhaps set up different formats for different customers, e.g. wholesale or retail sales.  The most interesting customisation I have created was using a single invoice with a ‘To Do’ format which provided details for the subcontractor, followed by the ‘Done’ format which went to the customer and showed only the summary of the job done!

Emails

‍Xero sends auto-generated email messages with every invoice emailed to a customer. There are also email templates for remittances, quotes, purchase orders – up to 8 different transactions.  Finally, there are email templates for automatic invoice reminders.  And they are all customisable.  Use wording that better reflects the image of your business. Or perhaps advise customers of upcoming events, for example adding ‘see you at the Christmas function on the 10th Dec’ at the end of the email.  Just remember to edit it again after the 10!

There is also the option to have emails sent from a different address.  For example, everyone in the office logs into xero using their own email address, but all emails are sent from the ‘admin’ address.

‍Account Names

‍If we’ve set up your Xero file, we will have used our standard set of account names and customised as much as possible.  A file set up directly from the Xero website will have a much smaller list of accounts. Whatever you have is no limit to whatever you would like to have.  Accounts can be added, removed or edited to best fit your business.

‍Tracking

‍Keep tabs on particular parts of your business, e.g. on each rental property you own or departments you have. Separate profit reports can then be run for each track.

‍Reporting

‍Customised reports can be created to give you just the information you are looking for.
